HOVERBOARD WHEEL SIZE: what tire size do I need?

Hoverboard is a comparatively new item on the market, and, despite of scandal news about hoverboards catch fire, it looks like two wheel balance board opened a new era of transportation.
In this article I would like to talk more about tires sizes, and hope this information will be useful and interesting for those who are thinking about buying a hoverboard.

Like with many modes of transportation, the size of the wheels is important to consider.

6.5-7 inch wheels make a hoverboard smaller and more efficient. While this is fine for smooth surfaces, hoverboard users may find that these smaller wheels will wheel spin when coming off the ground on an uneven surface. When the wheel regains contact with the ground, it’ll jerk forward and cause some users to lose control – especially when riding at high speed. This means that hoverboard users have to ride slowly over uneven surfaces, even at walking pace, to make sure they stay balanced and safe. The use of smaller wheels also means that hoverboards won’t perform well against curbs, or any other kind of slightly elevated surface.

8 inch wheels should provide a slightly higher level of stability than than those using the 6.5-7in wheels, whilst preserving its relatively small and compact form factor. With this being said, if you’re looking for something that could handle off-roading, I would advise the 10 inch variation.

10 inch wheels is visibly larger than its smaller counterparts – almost to the point where it looks out of proportion – but handles off-roading on grassy, uneven surfaces with fewer issues.

Size of tires determines not only surfice, on which you can ride, but also the top speed of a hoverboard.

Top speed for 6.5-7 inch wheels is 7mph. Despite the slightly larger 8 inch wheels, you'll realistically be cruising at the same speed as 6.5 inch. Bigger 10 inch wheels can get up to a top speed of 10-12 mph.

Lithium Ion Batteries for Hoverboard: Myth & Reality

We have already discussed the topic about safety of hoverboards and why It might catch fire (Read more here: http://snip.ly/wzea5), but it seems that the question still remains on the agenda.

Yesterday when I was chatting with several clients who were thinking about buying a hoverboard, I noticed that the main question which makes them worry is safety and how to choose the batteries for a hoverboard to protect it from fire.

News about hoverboard explosions overrun the Internet. US government claimed hoverboard as dangerous. A week ago Amazon stopped selling hoverboards due to safety issues.
It is really so dangerous? Have we ever thought about how many car accidents occurs every second all over around the world? And how many people die in that car accidents? Is hoverboard more dangerous than a car?

But let’s start from the beginning. What might cause the fire?

BATTERIES:

According to CNET, most hoverboards use lithium ion batteries, the kind often used in laptops and cell phones. The liquid inside these batteries is flammable.
OVERCHARGING: one people say Lithium ion batteries cannot accept overcharge. Hoverboard’s charger features a cut-off mechanism which detects when the battery is charged, and stops the charging process automatically. Defects in this cut-off mechanism, may lead to overcharging of the cells, and to a fire.

BUMPING AROUND:

Wired notes that any lithium ion battery is more prone to explode when it gets bumped around a lot — and unless you're super skilled at hoverboarding, It will like bash into walls and corners on the regular.

SAFETY TIPS:

1.     Do not charge the hoverboard overnight
2.     Do not charge the hoverboard more than 2 hours
3.     Avoid running the hoverboard into hard sufarces, like rocks
4.     Don't drop the hoverboard

5.     Wear safety gear

HOVERBOARD CATCHES FIRE: is it REAL or CREATED danger?

HOVERBOARD CATCHES FIRE: is it REAL or CREATED danger?

The hoverboard was undeniably the breakout gadget of 2015 and remains very popular in the beginning of 2016.

The news has been overrun the past few weeks with stories of hoverboards causing frightening fires and explosions.

Why are hoverboards exploding?
The main reason hoverboards have self-destructed is because of their batteries. Most of hoverboard producers use rechargeable lithium-ion batteries for power, and those can be dangerous for two reasons: cheapness and mistreatment.
Li-ion batteries are used in everyday devices such as mobile devices and tablets, but typically the companies making those devices can afford to use higher-quality, more expensive batteries. You won't be able to tell how good the li-ion batteries are in your hoverboard, but it's safe to say that cheaper, "knockoff" hoverboards use mass-produced cells of lower quality to cut costs.
Also hoverboard batteries are typically placed inside the footrest of the device, so they're getting stepped on, kicked, and roughed-up every time you go for a ride. It is obvious that hoverboards are going to be abused more than, say, your laptop, so there's a greater chance its battery could get damaged by rough play, and any damage makes them more susceptible to malfunction or explosion.

In the end of 2015 after one of the most popular hoverboards caught fire and damaged someone's home, Amazon pulled the hoverboard from its website, but it has since been brought back.

Acoording to CNET, On Tuesday (22-FEB-2016), Amazon.com pulled all its hoverboards from its website, leaving only accessories such as decals and wheels still available. More details here: http://www.cnet.com/news/amazon-hoverboard-fire-risk-sales-no-more/

IS IT RIGHT TO SAY, that HOVERBOARD UNSAFE                                               or even DANGEROUS ITEM?

Hoverboard is a new product on the market, which opened a new era in transport. Can we make rush conclusion on the basis of few examples and claim that all hoverboards are unsafe?

HOVERBOARD vs CAR: is a car safe comparing with hoverboard? Have anyone even count how many car accidents occurs every minute around the world and in US particularly? Not to say about pollution and endless traffic jams, when hoverboard is environmentally friendly item.

We welcome your comments, ideas, critics!

         HOVERBOARD: YOUR LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE!

This morning I got up too late and was rushing to the office, but in the middle of the way I stopped as my attention was attracted by a guy who was walking his dog and riding a hoverboard! I could not help my self and run after him just to say that it is so amazing! Can you imagine my surprise when he told me that his girlfriend cook riding a hoverboard! He also shared with me that for them hoverboard is the same regular daily item like, say, mobile devise or cattle.

I saw people dancing riding a hoverboard or making different tricks with their hoverboards such as playing football or even basketball, jumping.

I invite everyone to share YOUR HOVERBOARD RIDING experience!

Wanna something more than simple riding straight or turning around?
Here we prepared easy and advanced tricks for you to do on your hoverboard.

Once feel confident on a hoverboard, most of people are learning how to ride through small narrow space. This trick is called the Rip Stick.

To do this trick you need a space that is smaller than the width of the hoverboard. First turn your hoverboard sideways, then start moving your hoverboard forward and backward in short “S”.

Succeeded with the Rip Stick? Congrats! Now try to make the Figure 8!

Imagine that you want to write a number 8 on the floor with help of your hoverboard. Slide forward roughly a foot whilst turning and then backward while turning. This turn will help you move into a different direction when you go forward again. At the end of four full sets, you will have done an “x” or a figure 8-type motion.

The figure 8 is done? Still wanna try something more advanced? Then try 180 and 360 motion!

The 180 is pretty simple, but the 360 is a bit more advanced! Begin moving backwards and then turn 180 degrees and move forward. This is pretty simple, but for a more advanced movement, you want to move backward, turn 360 degrees and continue this.

TIPs: Getting off the hoverboard

This morning on the way to office I saw a guy who was learning to ride his new hoverboard. While trying to get off it safely, he made a mistake stepping forward instead of stepping back.

He reminded me myself when I was making my first hoverboard rides. And most of the beginners make this mistake. This morning scene inspired me to write tips how to get off the hoverboard safely, avoid injuries and unpleasant emotions and protect the hoverboard from scratches.

The first intuitive reaction is to step forward when trying to get off the hoverboard. Stepping forward is very dangerous as hoverboard slips out on you and you fall. To step off the hoveboard safely you simply need to shift your balance on dominant foot, and then step off with your non-dominant foot.

An easy way to remember this is that you should get off a hoverboard the same way you get on it. We all stand behind a hoverboard and step on one foot at the time. Why would you get off another way?

You might want to Practice just stepping on and off for a little while to get used to it.

Hope this information is useful and your first hoverboard riding experience will pleasant. For more details please visit us @ www.hoverboard4all.com
